SW Mobile Bay Bald Eagle Watch

SW Mobile Bay Bald Eagle Watch I live on SW Mobile Bay, right in the middle of a Bald Eagle playground. I've seen their 2 fledlings, too.

There's a nest nearby, and I've seen both adults sitting in the same hidey-hole between the branches of a nearby tree.

February 27 in the eagle tree. We had a sub adult visitor, looks like about a 2-year-old to me, come hang out in the eagle tree. I always wonder if these young visitors are previous offspring of the mated pair I'm watching here. Then one of the adults flew in squawking and squealing, perched, and craned their neck over the branches to watch the young one leaving.

March 1 in the Eagle Tree. I was able to get a little closer. I have permission to hop the fence on the property where the eagle trees are, and the light was so beautiful I popped down there for a little while and got these shots. This looks like Pa. Just

Today in the Eagle Tree. I have the permission of the owner of this property to climb through his fence and get closer to the Eagles anytime I want. The light was so beautiful this afternoon, I impulsively hopped into my car without my monopod or tripod or anything and popped down the road three driveways. I was able to get these shots for the brief time the eagle stayed in this spot. By the time I got back to my own driveway, the eagle was back in the tree. I guess I scared it off, and I just hate that. I don't want to make an uncomfortable in his own hangout! But it is always a treat to get a closer look!

The big, beautiful bald eagles have not been around much lately. I like to think they are tending some eggs or young eaglets in their nest, wherever it is. I saw them a little bit in bad weather earlier this month, and again today. They could very well be coming around and I've just missed them. But they are usually here so often, I do think they are busy elsewhere right now! Here are some shots from this month.

Today in the eagle tree. This is definitely the female. I'm guessing she has eggs on the nest, but I haven't been able to get a good look at the front of her. She almost always has her back to me at the angle I'm able to watch from.

Today in the Eagle Tree. I still figuring out this replacement camera. This camera has the capacity to zoom in closer than my older one, at freehanding at that level of zoom is too challenging for me. I've got my tripod ready to be deployed, and I just need to find an app that will operate my camera remotely.

Meanwhile, here are a few shots of the male eagle from this morning. Kind of light very challenging, too.

I'm sorry I've not been updating this page lately. The Eagles have been very busy! They were both hanging out together in the eagle trees for a while, but now they are coming one at a time, and it's mostly the mail. I suspect they will be laying eggs very soon if they have a clutch this year.

I keep in touch with the woman who watches over the eagle nests at Gulf State Park and I figure we are very close to the same timeline as the three nests over there. There are no eggs over there yet.

Once eggs are laid, they incubate for 35 days, then hatch. Then it's another good while before the baby's fledge. Remember we still have young eagles hanging around, most likely this pairs offspring from past clutches.

Here are some photos from the last few weeks.

Look who visited the eagle tree today! I've seen them both over there together another time or two recently.

Soon they will be cruising around with branches and moss in their beaks and talons, and they will be fortifying their nest, wherever it is.

According to my very non-scientific observations, they will lay eggs around Thanksgiving, hatch around the New Year, and fledge around Easter.
