Zara and I have been wanting to work together for quite some time… and she finally made it happen. 🥹

From our very first phone call, I knew we were going to connect on set!

And the moment she walked into the studio, there it was…that infectious energy. Warm, joyful, funny, and just so incredibly easy to be around.

We had SO much fun creating together.

The first thing I’m looking for isn’t an expression.

It’s connection.

And connection starts with trust.

Over the years, I’ve learned that great headshots don’t begin when I pick up my camera.

They begin by slowing down.

By listening.

By understanding why someone is there and what they hope these headshots will do for them.

My job isn’t to make everyone act the same in front of the camera.

It’s to meet people where they are.

If you’re quiet, we’ll ease into it.

If you’re goofy, we’ll laugh.

If you’re a leader, I’ll honor that while helping you get out of your head.

Because the goal isn’t just a great headshot.

It’s creating an environment where you feel comfortable enough to be yourself.

She’s a dentist by day, an actress by heart, and one of the kindest humans you’ll meet.

Maybe it’s because I’m an actor too, but I have such a soft spot for people who refuse to let go of their creative side. They build careers, chase big goals, and somehow still make room for the thing that lights them up.

It’s funny how quickly we make up stories before we’ve even walked through the door.

I caught myself doing exactly that before this session.

I was photographing a corporate team, and somewhere in my head I decided, “Okay Karri…time to be a little more serious.”

😂 Nope.

The moment I walked through the door, everyone was warm, kind, funny, and genuinely enjoyable to be around. We laughed, chatted, and before long, it just felt like people connecting with people.

One thing they shared with me when they hired me really stuck:

“We don’t want just another corporate headshot.”

My response: “you found the right photographer!”

Whether I’m photographing an actor, an entrepreneur, or an entire corporate team, my goal has never been to create the same polished image everyone else has.

It’s to create photographs that feel like you.

Professional doesn’t have to mean stiff.

Confident doesn’t have to mean intimidating.

Corporate doesn’t have to mean cookie-cutter.

Thank you to this incredible team for trusting me to capture not only what you do, but who you are.

🚫 Stop bringing five versions of the same outfit to your headshot session.

Your headshot wardrobe isn’t a fashion show. It’s a casting strategy.

Most actors think wardrobe is about looking good.

It’s not.

It’s about giving casting directors a reason to picture you in more than one role.

For Bella’s session, every look had a purpose:

Most people think a great headshot starts with the camera.

I’d argue it starts long before that.

Before every session, I’m preparing more than lighting, camera settings, and adjusting the space itself. I’m thinking about the person who’s about to walk through the door.

What they’re excited about. What they’re nervous about. What they hope these photographs will say.

Because my goal has never been to simply create beautiful images.

It’s to create an experience where people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to let their guard down.

The photographs are simply the result of everything that happens before the first shutter click.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m awkward in front of the camera,” I hope this gives you a little glimpse into why so many people leave saying, “That was actually… fun.”
