Lots of Magnolia Warbler sightings last weekend. Big fan! When this bird was collected and from a magnolia tree in the 1800s, it was given the English name “Black-and-yellow Warbler,” and “magnolia” was part of its scientific name. Overtime magnolia became part of the common name.

Prothonotary Warbler from last weekend at Magee Marsh!! This was my first time encountering these cuties, and they were so active and fun to watch. Unlike many other warblers, they build their nests in holes in standing dead trees and sometimes will use nest boxes.
