New lifer! Western Grebe from San Francisco! This guy was so much bigger than the grebes that I’m used to - Pied-billed and Horned Grebes. Apparently, their courtship display is described as ballet-like. I wish I had gotten to see it!

White-breasted Nuthatch from over the weekend. Nuthatches recognize the alarm calls of species such as chickadees and downy woodpeckers that way they do not have to be as alert by relying on the vigilance of other birds. Pretty nifty.
