Nothing fast or flashy just one of the many carefully executed switching moves during New York Central No. 3001’s journey from Elkhart to Fort Wayne.

This scene sees Fort Wayne Railroad’s No. 25, a Plymouth 50-ton switcher, slowly move 3001 around for final placement inside the restoration shop at New Haven, IN. You can look up American Locomotive Project online to find out more about everything you’re seeing.

As always Nickel Plate Road caboose No. 141 looks great too.

Only a few more days until it is time to go back to the Tri-State Area for the 2026 edition of the Indiana Rail Experience’s Fall Colors Steam Special with Nickel Plate Road No. 765.

This particular scene was shot last year just south of Hillsdale, Michigan.

Mohawk on the Move

Norfolk Southern’s New York Central Heritage Unit No. 1066 leading NYC L3a Class 4-8-2 Mohawk No. 3001 and a few other pieces from the National New York Central Railroad Museum down the Marion Branch.

The 3001 is the focus of Fort Wayne Railroad’s American Locomotive Project which aims to restore the the Mohawk to operation.

It is with great sadness that I must announce that the ever reliable and well traveled Trainwizardmobile has chased its last train. For the past several years it’s taken me wherever I needed to be but lately after this past year of one unmissable event after another it began to show its age.

At least its final achievements will be remembered for the chases of Nickel Plate Road No. 765’s first revenue grain train on the Indiana Northeastern Railroad and the move of New York Central Mohawk No. 3001 from Elkhart to Fort Wayne to really start the American Locomotive Project.
