Kate + Jonathan 🤍
About 30 minutes before their ceremony at Airlie, the rain started. Umbrellas came out, plans changed, and Kate’s dress was definitely not staying dry.
But Kate knew what mattered to her. She wanted to walk down the aisle and see Jonathan waiting for her for the first time. So that’s exactly what she did.
There was this tiny moment during the processional that I keep thinking about.
Kate and her dad came to a little fountain and had to split around opposite sides of it. They never let go of each other’s hand. They stretched across the fountain, came back together on the other side, gave each other this little hip bump, laughed, and kept walking toward Jonathan.
It lasted maybe two seconds.
But as a dad with a little girl of my own, I think it might have been my favorite moment of the entire day.
Someday I hope I’m the dad walking my daughter down the aisle. And if it’s raining, something goes wrong, or the day looks nothing like we thought it would, I hope I’m still the guy who can make her laugh on the way.
It rained. Everyone got a little wet. The timeline changed. We made portraits under umbrellas and found cover where we could.
But Kate and Jonathan got married surrounded by their people, and a dad got to make his daughter laugh on the way down the aisle.
The plan changed. The important part didn’t.
