🚫 NO Ai 🚫
Ai can only look backwards. Humans can look forward.
I found this flatscreen TV by the dumpster at home. So I brought it to the studio and painted it (a concept I’ve been wanting to do for a while). For my August self portraits, took photos of myself as well as every possible angle of the tv, editing them all together so I’m sitting on a pile of anti-Ai monitors. A hill I will die on.
As an artist, the entire creative process gives me life. I love brainstorming, shooting, directing, crafting, building, and editing. I was put on this earth to create. Technology has definitely improved, but my process will always stay the same. I love being able to say “I made this.”
Yes, Ai has been in our lives for years. Spellcheck, GPS, facial recognition and detection, and more, and it’s only getting better especially industrially and medically. But that’s not what we’re fighting against.
Ai that’s been developed, improved, and trained in editing programs like subject selection, background remover, motion/object tracking, erasing, and expansion are excellent additions to the photography and videography community. We’re still doing all the work, just with a little help. But that’s also not what we’re fighting against.
The GENERATIVE Ai where uncreative people type in a prompt and let a computer spit it out is what we’re fighting against. It steals from existing art, styles, and references, it cannot create anything new.
I miss when we didn’t have to decipher whether something is created digitally or just generated. I miss when my eyes didn’t roll so far in the back of my head when I see the same style Ai flyer or a generated logo. I miss when non-artists were wowed by the creative process instead of insisting they can do the same with a couple clicks.
I love doing it all because then my skills can improve and I can try bigger projects. I’ve been taking photos ever since I was little and have been doing photography full time for 6 years. Seeing my own progress as an artist is something that Ai can never do. Check out my entire creative process!
