I had no way of knowing that this would be our last family portrait together.
I took those photos on December 30th, 2023… exactly 1 year and 1 month before my husband of over 16 years would take his life.

That’s the thing about portraits—

Last year I turned 40 and was hoping for a year of big shifts and growth.

I never could’ve imagined what would come to pass this last January, on the heels of the incredibly trying year that preceded it.

I don’t want to be defined by the tragedy and trauma that was inflicted upon me, but it’s now an undeniable part of my story.

I’m slowing seeing glimmers of light illuminating my grief cave, I’m gonna keep stepping towards showing up more regularly, and really standing on the mission I see for myself and my business.

I learned quite some time ago that every tragedy is surrounded by incredible blessings if you’re willing to look for them.
Within the gut wrenching pain of this loss, I simultaneously have never felt more loved and cared for in my life.

Today I stepped into year 41………………Its not the milestone that entering a new decade tends to be, but my hope is for it to be the most pivotal year on record for me yet. 🤲

So incredibly thankful for all the love and support I’ve received over my clients this last year.

The way I work with my clients is quite an intimate experience, and many have become true friends and my biggest cheerleaders.

Growing a business is also about growing yourself, and growing pains come with it in spades, but the amazing network of women that I’ve worked with already , or may work with in the future make all the difference in the world.

I stepped into my 40s in 2024. This milestone, coupled with my bold leap to go all in on my photography business last year, has brought a stream of transformative growth, as well as deep struggles I’m still working to overcome.

I have noticed and admired how so many women over 40 seem to break free of the burden of other people’s opinions, and go charging toward what they want with a new voracity. Personally, I let the perceived judgment of others hold me from pursuing my passion for years. But life has a way of jolting us into action, doesn’t it?

In 2021, I lost my mother at just 66 years old. Her passing was a stark reminder of life’s brevity and catalyzed a profound change in my life.

After decades of perfecting images of global icons like Beyoncé, Rihanna, JLO, and Celine Dion, my perspective shifted dramatically after losing my mother. I began to ask a powerful question: Why shouldn’t real women have equally iconic imagery for themselves.

I’ve been quietly working on a project to showcase women who have lived enough life to know they are done doing it on someone else’s terms.

My 40 Over 40 Project goes beyond photography; it’s a movement dedicated to celebrating women, and the power of sharing their wisdom.

This project is designed to celebrate not just their outer beauty, but also the stories and experiences that shape who they are. It’s about empowering women to see themselves in a new light and to embrace their individuality in a supportive environment. Through this initiative, I hope to foster connections among women, allowing them to uplift one another while showcasing their remarkable journeys.
