Maria’s Field of Hope pt.1
I showed up thinking, what a beautiful sunflower field and left Maria’s Field in deep reflection. As a mother of three littles, I kept thinking 𝙄 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚. I couldn’t imagine finding out that my 6-year-old daughter was given a year to live. I couldn’t imagine living a day without waking up to her infectious smile and boisterous laugh. I couldn’t imagine not folding her tiny clothes and lining up her stuffies, just the way she likes. I couldn’t imagine not being able to spoil her with a new toy or cuddling up on the couch, watching her favorite movie for the millionth time. I couldn’t imagine loving and protecting her for 6 years, to then not having her in my arms.
But I knew that I NEEDED to imagine.
Imagine what it’s like to walk in her shoes. In her parent’s shoes. In the shoes of parents and families all over the United States, who are failed. Absolutely failed in finding a cure. Failed in having the necessary research, seeing funding cut before your eyes, all while already knowing research is grossly underfunded to begin with.
We need to imagine what walking that path is like. Imagine what it’s like to navigate the medical field and health trenches, while you’re at your lowest. What it feels like to lose your child right before your eyes. To imagine a day when the person you love the most is no longer in your arms.
So, imagine.
Imagine enough people demanding that our tax dollars go to LIFE SAVING RESEARCH.
Imagine a community getting together to support families that are walking this path.
Imagine a world where we no longer see children suffer and succumb to this disease.
Thank you Maria, for allowing us to walk the sunflower path in your remembrance. In the remembrance of every child that was taken far too soon. I’ll continue to imagine what it’s like to walk that path and in the meantime, I’ll carry HOPE. HOPE for a future where childhood cancer is eradicated and every child can grow up in the arms of the ones who love them. Hope for a future where these children are playing in a sunflower field, instead of being remembered in one💛
