Tip of the week - 06/05/2013
Where are your photos? Do they lurk under the bed in a shoe box, on a closet shelf or in a drawer? Are they still in those canisters of undeveloped film? Maybe they’re on your phone, in your computer hard drive or on a memory stick. If these are printed photos you run the risk of them being damaged over time by heat, humidity and light. For these photos it’s critical to get them organized in a photo safe storage box. Not the kind made of cardboard that adds exposure to acid, but in a dark-colored, polypropylene box. If they’re stored electronically, back them up onto CDs and store the CDs as you would the photos – in protective sleeves and in a box. Never store these items or your photo albums in an attic or basement that is not climate controlled. In both instances, as long as the photos are stored in a box or on a CD – the photos are hidden from view by you and your family. Get those photos printed, into albums and tell the stories before you forget what they were all about. Which would you rather pass on to your family – a box full of photos and CDs that don’t have anything written about them or an album that gives them focus and tells the story?
