We’re less than one month away from Friends of Butte Creek’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival on tour in Chico and Paradise! Take a sneak peek at this year's festival by watching the festival trailer from the flagship SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival's event in Grass Valley and Nevada City.

SYRCL is letting us take the show on the road, and many of the short films featured in the trailer will be shown at our film festival! Join us for Mobilize Film Night on Saturday, September 26 at the Paradise Performing Arts Center and Flock of Films Night on Thursday, September 24 at the Pageant Theatre.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival inspires environmental activism and a love for nature–through film. Join us for 120 minutes of environmental short films with compelling stories of hopefulness, adventure, and innovative wildlife and habitat conservation. You won’t want to miss it!

Plus, you will be able to learn more about what you can do locally to help protect one of the last self-sustaining wild populations of Spring-run Chinook salmon (that call Butte Creek home)! Locally all proceeds from the festival go towards habitat restoration projects on Butte Creek conducted by Friends of Butte Creek.

Our annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival is coming up on 9/24-9/26! This years festival includes two nights of spectacular films, guided field trips, and more. Today we'll be highlighting 'Bears in Hot Tubs' one of the inspiring films that will be featured at our 'Mobilize' Film night 9/26 at the Paradise Performing Arts Center.

'Bears in Hot Tubs' is an intimate short film co-created with Maddie Bear and her kin. Set in suburban Los Angeles, it reveals black bears as sentient neighbors navigating a shared landscape. Through poetic imagery and quiet observation, the film reimagines coexistence as an invitation to co-thrive with care, empathy, and respect.

This film was named The Best Short Documentary in the Ladyface Mountain Film Festival.

Come out to the festival on 'Mobilize' night 9/26 to see this film and more! Tickets Available Now: https://buttecreek.eventive.org/

The Salmonid Restoration Federation held several workshops and field trips as part of the annual conference last week in Redding . I was able to attend the Clear Creek and Battle Creek restoration field trips where agencies and practitioners are reconnecting floodplains and reshaping old mining tailings into functional riparian habitat, all good lessons for our restoration project on Butte Creek at the CDFW ecological reserve.
