Play for Peace - Chico, CA "Play for Peace" is a CONCEPT DREAM for a weekly intersectional, inclusive community gathering in Chico. Like to support the dream! Come Join the Movement.

"Join with those who sing songs, tell stories, enjoy life...because happiness is contagious. Join those who walk with their heads held high even when they have tears in their eyes. Avoid those who...have never shed a tear." Paulo Coelho.

Play for Peace: Music for the Movement is a CONCEPT for a weekly out-of-doors gathering every Saturday in the City Plaza from 1-3pm during the Spring, Sum

mer, and Autumn seasons. We are still in the dreaming process...but we are not the only ones... ;)

This is a free, wholly inclusive community event which seeks to combine live entertainment with modern social/environmental/political issues in order to promote community strength, awareness, and unity. Play for Peace is made possible entirely by the efforts of volunteers just like You. :)

-----

Set-up for the event could begin at noon every Saturday with the active support of the City of Chico, the Peace & Justice Center, and the Downtown Chico Business Association, or other organizations. Artists will be positioned on the main stage area to allow for maximum audience focus and participation. Acts will have 15-20 minutes to share on the stage, whether it be solely musical or music and dance together. Assuming most live songs will be 4-4.5 minutes long, this will typically look like 3-4 song sets for artists. In between sets, there will be announcements and news highlights sharing the progress being made in our community toward sustainability, right-sharing, and civil/environmental rights activism; as well as providing a platform that connects causes with individuals passionate to take actions in those specific interests. The thing that sets Play for Peace apart from other group festivals or concerts is that all songs and showcases performed will have a positive or awareness-intentioned message concerning our collective human experience and conditions. Additionally, each Saturday will correspond with a specific theme: an activist-led civil liberties demonstration of some kind or another kind of performance designed to increase awareness in that area. Each week will feature 7 music/dance act ensembles and 5 spoken-word/slam-poetry artists that will be able to share and express during band set-ups/tear-downs. Non-Profits and Sustainable, Local Businesses will be invited to set up non-funding related booths and tables on a pre-approved basis. Photography and video-graphic documentation of gatherings will be captured and recorded by local professionals on a donation-based volunteer basis in order to archive efforts for future study, promotion and sharing among neighbor communities, and mutual empowerment of partnering groups and organizations. This is a work in process...it will continue to evolve and move forward along the way...as it has to-! Please LIKE US and send us a message if you'd like to be involved in any way! We are open to all the help we can get and all time is valuable and welcome! Let's Get Going!

Our Story

"Join with those who sing songs, tell stories, enjoy life...because happiness is contagious. Join those who walk with their heads held high even when they have tears in their eyes. Avoid those who...have never shed a tear." Paulo Coelho. ----- Play for Peace is a concept for a weekly out-of-doors gathering in Chico, CA.

This is a free, wholly inclusive community event which seeks to combine live arts and entertainment with modern social/environmental/political issues in order to promote community strength, awareness, and intersectional unity. Play for Peace is made possible entirely by the efforts of volunteers just like You. :) ----- I want to be clear that I'm not actually organizing anything, but I've thrown out a concept to see who might be interested in being involved with an Intersectional listening session here in Chico between locally marginalized groups as a show of solidarity and support for Black Lives Matter.

My hope is to increase community networking for locals by holding space for anyone who wants to collaborate on getting something like this going for Chico without infringing on a specifically BLM event where only Black voices should be amplified. We are open to all the help we can get and all time is valuable and welcome!
