I’m on my way to the Portrait Society of America annual conference in DC! I will be going LIVE on the Portrait Society Instagram page through the weekend - behind the scenes interviews and updates with many of the amazing staff artists and finalists! I also take you around the Face Off on Thursday night - watching 15 of the world’s top portrait artists paint sculpt and draw from the live model! That starts at 4:30 Thursday. All live streams will be shared on Instagram- I hope you follow along!

Tonight I will be giving a lecture/demo at the Booth Western Art Museum for the Booth Artist Guild. I see it going one of two ways...either a complete success or I'll throw up on my shoes! Either way, it should be entertaining...they have a youtube channel where you can catch it LIVE at 6:00 or rewatch the video later on!

For the second year in a row a portrait of my niece AnneMarie has been recognized by the Portrait Society of America! This time...as one of the top 20 finalists. I am still in shock! Over 3000 entries went through 8 rounds of judging over a 5 day period.

(I'm incredibly grateful that my neighbor is a brilliant woodworker and we're designing a beautiful frame...because this little 8x10 cherub will be hanging among some giants - literally and figuratively! - of the portrait art world!)

Let me know if you're going to be at the Portrait Conference in Atlanta in April - you get to see all of the top 20 and ME of course!

Join award-winning artist Kristina Laurendi Havens at Local Color Art Studio for a two-day workshop of portrait painting! Kristina will present a short demonstration each day, explaining step-by-step how to choose colors for their unique properties and how they can work well with each other. Students will complete 2-3 small portraits based on black and white images, translating value into color while experimenting with the chroma, transparency, and opaque characteristics of paint - creating a likeness while exploring interesting painting language.
