THE COURAGE TO SEE Photowalk with John Abernathy was an incredible experience for me.
Is street photography scary? No, probably
But did I feel scared? Yes -_-
Based on my previous experience photographing during the state of war in Ukraine, I don’t feel comfortable, or basically brave enough, approaching strangers, even though I find them beautiful and interesting to photograph.
Ugh, so complicated, I was a complete mess after this experience yet inspired. I absolutely did explore the therapeutic benefits of making, editing, and viewing photography. Why did I want to fight, run and freeze simultaneously? In a completely safe environment, midday Chicago downtown, surrounded by friendly people with the same interests. So many questions, and so few answers yet. The whole concept of Fotophase is brilliant!
