I like this. Why?

Because I think it generates honesty. My experience with photography mirrors my current direction in life. I find that following instincts, no matter how impractical or impulsive they seem, always lead to an interesting, organic place. I believe it is my job as Photographer to "jump off the cliff," to dive into the realm of honesty, and to surface with beautiful images. Lets jump together.

Aaaaand we're back! Life took some ridiculous turns and I ignored my photography self for a while. No longer. Let's make stuff, y'all.

But first I need an opinion! Which of these is your favorite?

Sweet heavens, friends! Today was a terribly good day. It is! It is a good day! It's not over yet. It's 3:26pm for me. I love that feeling.

I think I'm turning into a morning person. I love having a new day in front of me. I tend to feel sad as the day winds down and I have to go to bed. Waking up is a joy.

What did I do today? I got up, taught some cute (and some CRAZY) little kids from China some English, went for a strange run full of scary scary geese, and prepared to meet with a client.

I get a little nervous meeting with new clients. Why?? I dunno, I guess I think of myself as a shy person. When I have these meetings, it's up to me to lead a discussion and get some information about them, which can be vulnerable on both sides.

I'm happy because today's meeting was beautiful. I didn't just learn about the life of my client, my client taught me about LIFE. We had a conversation about religion, art, and language.

I love what I'm learning as I pursue this craft. The more I focus on other people, the more fulfilled I feel.

Do you have any experiences with this? I'd love to hear any thoughts.

Friends!
I don't have much to say other than today there's some pretty light and it makes me wanna go out and chase it. I had a looong and awesome photo shoot yesterday and have been happily Netflixing (real verb!) since.
Now I rise.
I hope it's sunny wherever you are.
Let the light give you a big ol hug and have a glorious Sunday.

So I'm including you in on a journey here. I'm trying to figure out what people need. What they need, what they want in regards to their creativity, dreams, what they want to DO with their lives. And how I can help them with that. Right here.

So I'm gonna ask myself. Camilla. If you could follow someone on social media who could help you out with your creativity, what would that look like?

Well, Camilla, it's a good question. I really love following success stories. I like Ken Robinson because he shares stories about people starting from nothing, but rising to 'success' as they follow their inner voice, find a community, and MAKE STUFF.

I also like it when people teach me something valuable. I follow photographers who tell me what lens they're using, or who give me tips on helping a couple be themselves in a shoot.

And I like to feel encouraged.

So this is a long post, but let me do those things.

Here's a story. There's a little girl. She does terrible in school, can't pay attention, if she was a little girl today we'd say she had ADHD. Her school tells her mother the equivalent of "Hey. This girl can't focus. She needs a special school to deal with her special problems." The concerned mother takes her to a doctor, who notices she's fidgeting a ton, turns on the radio and says something like "I'm gonna talk to your mom, hang tight." He leaves the room, and when he does, the girl gets up and dances to the radio. She's dancing all over the place. The doctor and mother watch, the doctor says, "You know Mrs. Lynne, Gillian isn't sick. She's a dancer. Take her to a dance school." So her parents take her to dance school.

Boom. Turns out this is Gillian Lynne who has a wildly successful career as a dancer, and goes on to choreograph Phantom of the Opera and Cats and all that good stuff.

And you know what, this relates to my tip. And it's not just for photographers. The tip is to just listen. I do this thing now where I sit down with whoever I photograph and I have a conversation with them. I listen. I let them tell me who they are, what they like, what they don't like, and what they want. And then we create something together.

You can do it. Whatever it is you're thinking. Do it. Unless it's murder or something stupid like that.

Share thoughts ask questions, whatever!

What?! I have a page???

Yes. I do. It's time to start acting like it.

I'm Camilla. Cam. You probably know me, but I'm introducing myself anyhow cause that's what you do with new beginnings. AND THIS IS A NEW BEGINNING, SUCKA.

I want to start a community. I don't want it to be cheap or sappy or or stupid. I want it to be honest, vulnerable, and I want it to offer support to creators. That's you. We're all creators. If you don't think you are, either public education educated it out of you, or you're in denial.

Them's is problems.

So I wanna talk to you. Whoever you are reading this. Now. You. Seriously. Who are you? And what are you FRUSTRATED about right now in your creative journey?

I'll go first. I'm FRUSTRATED that my instinct is to tell myself 'no' or 'that's selfish.' The other day I uncovered a dream of having my own studio. With the whoosh of "YEAH I REALLY DO WANT THAT AND IT'S POSSIBLE" came the feeling of "Damn. Why are you so self-absorbed? You'll never make enough money to do that, you don't deserve it, and when the hell are you going to have kids? Don't you care about the kids you haven't created yet?"

Yeah I do, thanks.

But these thoughts stifle me, make me think nobody will want to listen to me or interact with me, and thus put a pause on my endeavors to create a community or a prolific-studio-happy future for myself.

It's okay to want a studio.

It's okay to have dreams.

I'm not selfish. You're not selfish.

We just gotta show up.

What are YOU frustrated about? Or, have you dealt with my same frustration before? How did you deal with it? I welcome thoughts. Welcome.

Cam
