🎤 After 17 legendary years fronting the Miracles, Smokey Robinson stepped away from the group in 1972 — and almost retired from performing altogether. But the music wouldn't let him go. In 1973 he released his debut solo album Smokey, and "Baby Come Close" became his very first solo hit single. 💙 Written and co-produced by Smokey himself alongside Willie Hutch, it showcased everything that made him one of Motown's greatest — that impossibly silky voice, that tender restraint, that ache right in the center of every note. The Kennedy Center once called him "a singer's singer, a poet's own poet" — and on "Baby Come Close," you hear exactly why.
