1892. ~We did this to ourselves. We saved a dollar on the can of soup at the big box chain, but that meant family owned grocery in town went under. Yeah, we all kinda thought they felt they were better than us, but they sponsored the little league teams and school plays. Eighty cents of every buck we spent there stayed in our town. Your misfit cousin Jimmy could get a job there. Now he's doing m**h in the vacant school after it consolidated into the neighboring town. Grandma is working as a greater at Walmart, because she lost the secretary job she had when the company moved to Shenzhen. We did this to ourselves. One dollar at a time.

One of the few times I wasn't upset I couldn't get closer. This was in suburban New Lenox outside of Chicago. Urban sprawl already has this placed pegged as the next subdivision and the background was nothing but power lines and new townhomes.
