Cinematic Scenario #10
Two years ago I started a series called the "Scenario Series". I was nearing the end of my time in college with the idea that I was going to be a cosplay photographer. It wasn't until one of my professors said "You know, you're good at doing cosplay shots, but is that really ALL you want to be good at...?" The question stayed in my mind for nearly a week until I realized that I was never going to make a living off of doing what I loved (photography and videography), unless I broadened my horizons. I looked at the portfolio that I had spent so much time creating and I reevaluated all of it. Visually, the work I was doing was very bright and nothing short of interesting, but in reality, I needed something easier to understand.
My colleagues around me kept saying one thing that really stuck. "You have a way of telling a whole story in a photograph."
And I took that to heart, because there was something about being told that that felt really good. I wanna show a whole story—a whole movie in a single frame. So I started to look for inspiration. I did many many more shoots, searching for the perfect photos that worked in the series as a whole. Each shoot was numbered, some shoots didn't make the cut.
Enter Historical Reenactment. Here we have a reenactment of a Fallschirmjäger from WW2. The types of questions that this photo raises like, "What is he thinking?" "What has he done?" "What is he about to do?" really adds to the magic of this piece.
And on the technical side: multiple light sources, color theory at play, set design, and directing the mood of the image.
So that brings us to Shoot #10, or rather, Cinematic Scenario #10!
