This week I experienced the most difficult and frightening job as a photographer yet. I photographed a funeral service for a local Norfolk Fire fighter. Marshall was My Sister-In-Law Erin's brother. Marshall, just like all of Erin's family has treated My family and I just like their own family. It was without hesitation, when Erin asked me to photograph and capture the service I immediately said yes.
I began to panic because I have never photographed anything like this and I wanted to make sure I did my very best.
I'll be honest, the day of I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I'm not sure how all of my images didn't turn out blurry because I was shaking the entire time. Most of the day went by so quickly and blurred together. There were also moments where I felt frozen in time. It was extremely difficult seeing a family I care so much for in such pain and sorrow. Yet, some how I managed to be in the perfect place at the perfect time.
Marshall was a inspiring man who touched so many lives and it showed through this service. He will be truly missed by many. My only hope is that the family and friends of Marshall receive comfort and pride from my images.
