You invite me into your homes, so I figured I would invite you into ours.
To make a long story short, my husband, Suah, lives in Liberia and I’m here with our babies, Eden and Oliver. The two best things that have ever happened to me.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt the heaviness of the in-between. The nostalgia of the past and the fragility of the present. Soaking in every moment while knowing it won’t last. Over the last few years, there were many dark days when I wasn’t sure if I could make it, but I’ve kept choosing life. And not just a life of survival, but a life looked forward to.
Eden and Oliver brought with them a magic I forgot existed. I started to watch with amazement at how the sunset would turn the sky pink. Slowing down to jump in rain puddles. Finding sticks that could be turned into swords. Telling the flowers good morning as they open each day.
Motherhood not only changed me as a person, but as a photographer. I started to view moments in your lives differently too. My photographs started to transform. I became the artist again.
The crinkled noses and first steps. The dimples and the braided hair. These types of images I keep going back to in my own motherhood journey.. so I know how important they are.
I’ve been focusing my business on just that. Your families most sacred moments. In the safest place, your home. It’s where I feel the most creative and aligned.
So, what’s next?
Not only am I making the leap to specialize in family photography… a year from now, we’ll be making the big move to the city that never sleeps. That’s right, friends… New York City!!
My kids will know that I didn’t sacrifice my own dreams - they gave me the strength to chase them.
