You invite me into your homes, so I figured I would invite you into ours.

To make a long story short, my husband, Suah, lives in Liberia and I’m here with our babies, Eden and Oliver. The two best things that have ever happened to me.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt the heaviness of the in-between. The nostalgia of the past and the fragility of the present. Soaking in every moment while knowing it won’t last. Over the last few years, there were many dark days when I wasn’t sure if I could make it, but I’ve kept choosing life. And not just a life of survival, but a life looked forward to.

Eden and Oliver brought with them a magic I forgot existed. I started to watch with amazement at how the sunset would turn the sky pink. Slowing down to jump in rain puddles. Finding sticks that could be turned into swords. Telling the flowers good morning as they open each day.

Motherhood not only changed me as a person, but as a photographer. I started to view moments in your lives differently too. My photographs started to transform. I became the artist again.

The crinkled noses and first steps. The dimples and the braided hair. These types of images I keep going back to in my own motherhood journey.. so I know how important they are.

I’ve been focusing my business on just that. Your families most sacred moments. In the safest place, your home. It’s where I feel the most creative and aligned.

So, what’s next?

Not only am I making the leap to specialize in family photography… a year from now, we’ll be making the big move to the city that never sleeps. That’s right, friends… New York City!!

My kids will know that I didn’t sacrifice my own dreams - they gave me the strength to chase them.

Night after night, you run the water and fill up the tub with bubbles. You wash the dirt from a day of play, comb their hair, and giggle alongside the babies you grew in your belly.

As tedious as this sometimes feels. As exhausted as mothers are by the evening time. We keep going. We look at pictures like these and remember that this is their childhood. And we get to make it magical. Even something routine. We can play games, and sing songs, let the pups in, and be silly.

And then, we get to do it all over again tomorrow.

Let them be wild and messy. Curious and innocent. Let them imagine being captain of a pirate ship. Princesses climbing up their castle. Swinging all the way to the moon.

Let them be little, and remember, let yourself slow down and be little too.

Some b&w images from a day of capturing 18 mamas and their sweet babies!

This was a magical day. This community of women from Stone Soup Gathering is one I will always be grateful to be a part of.

They put a blanket down, there’s room for you to sit. They have an empty hand, your baby can fill it.

The beauty of motherhood shines in each of these women and it’s inspiring!

Those last few weeks of your pregnancy seem to pass minute by minute. But I think time moves slowly so that you have the before just a tad longer.

More morning pancakes with your first baby. Evenings playing outside. Bath times and snuggles before bed. The after feels like it might be bittersweet. You imagine there will be days looking back when it was ‘just us.’ When you gave all your energy to one baby instead of two. When life wasn’t as chaotic and loud, with double the mess.

But then you’ll look at your children as they run, play, and laugh beside one another. It will feel as if life itself didn’t exist before you knew them.

And it will only be sweet.

Being invited into these sacred spaces is not lost on me.

I remember how exhausting, overwhelming, messy, and new everything was as a first time mom. No breaks. Learning as each day starts again.

That’s why capturing these seasons is so important. When the haze of postpartum lifts (and it will) you’ll see just how incredible it all was.
