My heart has been incredibly heavy this last week as I continue to see the devastation that Helene caused in these beautiful mountains. It’s hard to explain just how much this area means to me. Since I moved to North Carolina, these mountains have been my safe place. Anytime I was going through some hard times, I’d find myself on my friend’s mom’s porch in Asheville, taking in the cool mountain air and listening to the sounds of the creek. Later in life, I wanted Nora to experience the same magic that I’ve always felt amongst the Blue Ridge Mountains, and she loves every second of it. It feels like this place will never be the same after so many lives have been lost and people continue to be stranded with no help in sight. The silver lining in all this is watching our community come together to do whatever we can to help.
