Today on Earth Day seemed like a perfect time to announce that one of my award winning images is now for sale at three locations. It is a 36" x 14" panoramic high quality poster print of the Wilson Creek Gorge located in the Grandfather District of the Pisgah National Forest in Caldwell County, North Carolina. I have titled it " Geological Wonderland" and it has two blue ribbons that I am very proud of. It is available for sale at the Wilson Creek Visitor Center (828-754-3108) and at Betsey's Ole Country Store & Cabin Rental (828-758-5051) or from my website @ www.jjshafferphotography.com in the "Current Events" gallery under Wilson Creek, NC.

Last Fall I was asked if I would share these images with the Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Today I am excited to announce that both of these are now a part of the newly redesigned Art Gallery located in the Visitors Center at the park. Allot of time was spent searching for and following these two bucks around trying to include both of them in the same frame but eventually it worked out for me. Both were taken within the park boundaries over the course of many trips.

Last weekend I had the honor of helping to document the 150th anniversary of the largest surrender of the American Civil War at the Bennett Place State Historic Site in Durham, NC. On April 17, 1865 General Joseph Eggleston Johnston and Major General William Tecumseh Sherman met at the farm of James and Nancy Bennett to begin negotiations of the terms of surrender for all troops still fighting in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Their negotiations would continue on April 18th and were finalized on April 26, 1865. As a result of this peace treaty 89,270 Confederate soldiers laid down their arms and returned home...This event was one of the most emotional re-enactment scenario's that I have had the pleasure of being a part of.

I would like to thank the Stanly Arts Guild and everyone at the Falling Rivers Gallery in Albemarle, NC for hosting a fantastic reception and awards ceremony on 4/11/15. In addition, a very sincere "thank you" to the Gaskin brothers, Jeff, Chuck, David, Bob and Paul for sponsoring the 7th annual Ellen Cook Gaskin Memorial Art Show "Nature At It's Best" awards and to the Uwharrie Bank of Stanly for the honorable mention awards. Last but certainly not least I would like to thank the show judge, Beth Goldston for all of her comments about my piece "Geological Wonderland". It was truly a memorable evening for me! ~ James
