I don't often do event photography outside of a few weddings, but I was invited to photograph an event for United Latinas here in Charlotte (they are worldwide!). I have been lucky enough to be able to assist on their 5 volumes of their book series called Extraordinary Latinas. Through that project, I have met some of the most amazing and inspiring women. I was also invited to be a member and I quickly accepted.

I'm not Latina and my Spanish is a work in progress, but I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this organization. It is open to everyone! I am first generation American and was lucky enough to be surrounded by many cultures growing up as a result. I grew up in homes serving Cuban coffee and Mexican food and with languages spoken all around me. I have also traveled to Puerto Rico, Mexico and Peru and am excited to explore South and Central America more. Most of all, I am excited to watch this organization grow and thrive. They bring a powerful message of connection and growth and community. There's a leadership conference coming up next month called Brave Voices here in Charlotte and I encourage you to check it out. You do not have to speak Spanish or be Latina to join this wonderful organization or participate.

Confession: I used to be terrified of teenagers. I think shooting teens brought out all the insecurity I felt when I was their age. The last few years, I've had the opportunity to photograph some really wonderful teenagers, specifically seniors getting ready to move beyond high school. My tune changed completely. I LOVE shooting teens now. They are so much fun and I love capturing who they are right now in this transitional time. I have kids from all kinds of styles and backgrounds come to me and I love that so much. We end up having great conversations and I enjoy the insights they share with me. Looking forward to more senior shoots this Spring!
