The Edwards Family at home // Sometimes you leave a session and just *know that you got some good stuff, and that's exactly how I felt after photographing the Edwards family in their home. Carly and I had known of each other for some time, but had never met in person. You never would have known! Being in their home felt easy and comfortable, and the conversation flowed freely. I love getting to connect with clients in a way that feels like we're old friends ❤️ .booher.edwards

Brandy and I met years ago when she hired me to do their engagement photos. She has since become one of my closest friends, and one of the people who I have photographed the most. Getting to photograph a family over a span of years, through so much growth and change, is truly a special thing. The close friendship we developed along the way was the biggest bonus. She recently sent me this updated testimonial, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me weepy. To know that one of my friends (and clients) feels seen and loved and photographed in a way that makes them feel beautiful is really all I could ever want from my photography.

I recently went way back in my (personal) feed, looking for something specific. And I mean WAY back. Back before stories and reels, before our feeds were full of ads and the algorithm prioritized anyone willing to pay to be seen (I know, I know. They say they don't). What surprised me most was how much interaction there used to be. Not just emojis or an "I love this!", but real, true interaction. We would share stories from our lives, snippets of our day, funny things our kids were doing, and people would respond!

I'm really just an old woman stuck in my ways, and I miss the early days of Instagram when all we had were pretty pictures and each other to talk to. I'm not saying don't sell your wares, obviously, because that's what I'm doing here. I'm just saying, can we slow down, really look? Take in the photo, read the caption, maybe even respond. I'll promise to do better if you will.

Will you get portraits of each family member, even if it's an in home session? You absolutely will! Will they be unique and a little bit artsy? Probably! 😄

Scott and I were talking today about our favorite photographers, and what we love about them, and our own old work (my husband has a degree in photography). There was a time when I took pictures for no reason other than because I loved taking pictures. I imagine it's that way for most photographers, for most artists. When I look at the images I took all those years ago, they aren't technically good, but I still connect with them on a deep level. I put so much heart, so much emotion, so much of who I was into my photography way back when. You can do that when you aren't getting paid for it 😄 Anyway, here's a hodgepodge of old pictures that I still love.

We've had a few "warm" days after weeks of ice and snow, and I can't help but be excited for Spring. Even though I know we have a ways to go, I find myself dreaming of warmer days and the world turning green again. For years, Fall was my favorite season, but since moving to Virginia, we have experienced colder winters and more snow than ever before, and it has given me a new appreciation for Spring. It feels like the world is waking up. One of the roads we take to town is a one lane dirt road the winds down the mountain. It's flanked on both sides by tall trees, and seeing those trees turn green again is one of my favorite moments of the whole year. Longer days, evenings spent in the garden with friends, dinners on the lawn, slow evening walks, we're almost there. I can feel it.

If you've been here a while, it won't come as a surprise to you that I want to focus more and more on family sessions in the home. I feel like I have been beating this drum for a while now, and it's because I feel so strongly that these sessions give clients photos that are true to who their family is in this current stage of life. I believe with all of my heart that these are the photos we will look back on with the most fondness. I believe these are the photos that will bring up sweet, old memories. The stuffed animal your child carried around for a year solid, the dress they wouldn't take off, the ratty old blanket that was their constant companion.

As I work to streamline my offerings, I would love to hear any thoughts, questions, concerns, etc. you have about this type of session. No question is off limits. You can leave it here, or send it in a DM. The more feedback I get, the better, so please, ask away!

Riding the high of two sessions this weekend that were fun and creative and left me feeling so thankful that I get to do this as a job. Neither session went according to plan, in that the weather didn't cooperate. One was incredibly cold and windy, and we didn't get to photograph outside as much as we had wanted. The other was overcast and cloudy, and we didn't get the golden hour we had hoped for. But that didn't stop us from making beautiful memories in the form of images. Whatever the universe throws us, we're going to work it!
