This was our favorite vignette in Magnolia Plantation. It was around noon when we entered the Bamboo Garden. The sun was high, reflecting the greens into the swamp below the red arched bridge. The cypress trees stand tall with artfully sculpted bases. We stayed there quite a while, watching a lone ibis forage along the base of the trees.

One of our favorite birds to see is the tri-colored heron. Each one is distinct, with a beautiful blend of blues, purples, and creamy whites that blend into golds. They are well-known for their graceful, dancelike movements. This one is a breeding adult, as noted by the blue patch around its bill, the pink legs, and its little white cap feathers.
This photo was taken at the Cypress Wetlands. All the "bokeh" lights behind him are actually birds! Hundreds of them!

"Strawberries and Cream"
It took two years before we finally found a spoonbill. They are exquisite birds. They remind me of strawberry ice cream - all the shades of pink and cream. To watch them is like watching a beautiful comedic ballet. We still haven't seen their little teaspoon babies -- maybe next year.
