Chapel Hill is the second of three malls that would be built in the Akron area, and the first of two to be built by Forest City, the other being Rolling Acres 8 years later. This mall has outlived its younger sibling, but for how much longer? Currently owned by Kohan, the mall has had repeated issues getting taxes and utilities paid on time and the county was seeking foreclosure prior to the pandemic outbreak. JC Penney was supposed to close in April, but I am unsure as to whether or not that happened as planned since COVID also closed down JCP's operations, but they were the final traditional anchor store at this mall. Of the three anchor spaces, the other two are a vacant Sears and a former Macy's occupied by Storage of America (yes, the same Storage of America moved here from Rolling Acres). Will this mall survive 2020?
