When a mid afternoon snack run turns into the best pizza in Mesa.
Stopped into Il Forno Bello on McKellips around 3:30 for a little something to hold us over and ended up demolishing the Il Lacho. Wood fired, light crust, fresh ingredients, the kind of pizza that makes you wonder why you ever settled for delivery. We got seated right away, but by the time we left there was a wait at the door and every table was full. Take that as your sign.
If you live in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, or Tempe and you have been hunting for a wood fired pizza place worth the drive, put this one on the list. Closed Sundays so plan accordingly.

The Wave in Arizona delivered yesterday. We hiked in, brought a flowing fly dress, and walked out with images I’ll be thinking about for years.

For anyone searching for The Wave, it sits inside Coyote Buttes North on the Arizona Utah border and only 64 people receive a permit per day. The hike is no joke, the heat is real, and there’s no marked trail. But when you round that final bend and the sandstone opens up into those impossible swirling curves of red, orange, and cream, you understand why photographers chase this location for a lifetime.

The fly dress was made for a place like this. Every gust of desert wind turned the fabric into another sculpture against the rock, and the late afternoon light wrapped everything in that golden Arizona glow only this state delivers. I’ve photographed in Arizona for over 20 years and this session sits near the top of the list.

Somewhere around 45 there is this weird thing that happens where you just kinda disappear. You walk into a room, nobody really sees you. Your husband steps around you like you are furniture. The cashier calls you ma'am. And everyone acts like this is just how it goes.

Here is what nobody tells you. You do not have to fade. You spent twenty years making everybody else feel seen. It is absolutely your turn.
That is literally what I do. I photograph women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. I point the camera at them and I go, there you are. And they cry. Every single time.

South Mountain Park Preserve before sunrise is a completely different world. Quiet and golden and honestly a little magical. We were out there with the saguaros and the early morning glow and I just kept thinking how lucky I am that this is my job.

your daughter asks for a second round of engagement photos, you absolutely do not say no. You set your alarm for before sunrise and you show up with your camera and your whole heart.

Somer and Kaedon wanted something different this time so we headed to South Mountain Park Preserve to catch the sunrise and then made our way over to Phoenix City Hall for a totally different feel. Two looks, one morning, and honestly one of my favorite sessions I have shot in a long time.

That sunrise light was absolutely unreal you guys. Warm and soft and golden and just... perfect. Arizona really did show up for them.

I may be slightly biased but they are just magic together and I cannot wait for their wedding next year. So proud of you Somer. 💍🤍

Jaiden had a plan. Sophie had no idea.

This past Saturday at Fountain Hills Park, with that iconic fountain as the backdrop, Jaiden got down on one knee and completely caught Sophie off guard in the best possible way.

I was there hiding in the wings, camera ready, heart racing -- because proposal sessions are honestly one of my favorite things to photograph. The moment she realized what was happening? Pure magic. You just cannot fake that reaction.

Fountain Hills showed up for them too. What a setting for a yes.

When Grandma and Grandpop flew the whole crew in from Canada for a Scottsdale vacation, we knew we had to make this one count.

Four sons. Their families. The babies running on Canadian time (3 hours off schedule and still the most adorable humans in North Scottsdale). And a golden hour session right near their rental so nobody had a meltdown before the photos happened.
This is exactly why I love vacation family sessions. Everyone is already together. Already in a good mood. Already making memories. I just get to show up and catch it.

Scottsdale, you are a beautiful backdrop for love like this. And Canada, you sent us a great one. 🌵❤️

Three generations met in the desert, and I got to be there with my camera.

A family came to visit their son who is a college student here in Phoenix. They booked a session through Airbnb Experiences because they wanted something more meaningful than sightseeing. They wanted to be together in the place he calls home.

South Mountain Preserve gave us everything: golden light, the iconic Arizona saguaro cacti, wide open skies, and that warm end of day energy that makes people drop their guard and just be with each other.

That is when the magic happens.

We photographed all three generations together, the grandparents with their grandson, parents with their kid who is suddenly all grown up, and all five of them together against the desert backdrop that only Phoenix can offer.

These are the photos that go on walls. These are the photos that get pulled out decades from now.
