📸 Happy International Photography Day

For me, it started long before I ever thought to call myself a photographer.

Before the business. Before the studio. Before I knew anything about lighting or lenses or posing or what it would mean to build a life around creating photographs.

It started with a camera and the realization that I could take the way I saw something, a person, a feeling, a tiny piece of a moment, and somehow make it stay.

And somewhere along the way, I discovered something on both sides of the camera.

Behind it, I found a way to tell stories. To notice people. To create worlds. To make something ordinary feel cinematic and something fleeting feel permanent.

In front of it, I learned how powerful it can be to see yourself differently. To step outside of the version of yourself you see every day and meet yourself through someone else's eyes.

Photography has followed me through so many versions of my life. From my earliest shoots in my youth, to discovering both sides of the camera, big cities and small towns, motherhood, creativity, reinvention, and eventually into a little studio in a small Washington town where I get to keep dreaming bigger.

And maybe that's what I love most about photography.

A photograph can be art.
It can be fashion.
It can be expression.
It can be evidence.
It can be memory.
It can be imagination.
It can be someone's confidence coming back.
It can be the last photograph you have of someone you love.
It can be proof that, for one tiny fraction of a second, this existed.
A reminder that you were here, you were seen, and you matter.

I've spent years using a camera as a tool for storytelling, expression, connection, and memory, and it's an honor to share what it can do with others.

So on International Photography Day, I'm feeling especially grateful for that first spark, every person who has trusted me since, every place photography has taken me, and all the photographs I haven't made yet.

Here’s to the moments we witness, the stories we create, and everything a photograph can become.

Before the cap and gown.

Before graduation.

Before the next chapter begins.

There are the traditions that helped shape who we become.

If you're from around here, you know there's something special about growing up in Lewis County.

The backroads you know by heart.

The fields that change with the seasons.

Friday night lights, county fairs, small-town traditions, and familiar faces everywhere you go.

Early mornings in the woods with family. Stories shared around camp. Traditions passed down from one generation to the next.

It's the kind of place that becomes part of your story long before you realize it.

For this Class of 2026 graduate, those traditions run deep. This location isn't just a beautiful backdrop. It's a place that holds memories, family stories, and generations of connection to the land.

One of my favorite parts of senior photography is helping each student tell their story in a way that feels authentic to them. Sometimes that's a place filled with family history. Sometimes it's a favorite hobby, a sport, a passion, or simply a location that captures the feeling of this season of life.

No two seniors are exactly alike, and their portraits shouldn't be either.

The most meaningful images are the ones that reflect who they are right now and preserve the moments, places, and experiences that helped shape them along the way.

One moment you're planning senior photos.

The next, graduation day is here.

It's funny how the milestones we spend years looking forward to somehow arrive all at once.

But this season was never really about the cap and gown.

It's about the late nights and the early mornings. The friendships. The lessons learned. The moments that felt ordinary at the time but somehow became the ones worth remembering.

Senior year passes in the blink of an eye, but the memories don't have to.

One of my favorite things about senior portraits is that they preserve a season of life that changes so quickly. Before careers, before college, before new adventures begin.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. May you be brave enough to chase big dreams, kind enough to lift others along the way, and confident enough to become exactly who you're meant to be.

This past weekend I was out and about and stopped by the sweetest vintage pop-up sale from "Picked Poppies". 🌸

As we were chatting about all the cute vintage treasures (because let's be honest... I'm always hunting for unique pieces for the studio 😅), the conversation turned to where my studio is located.

That's when they said they knew exactly where I was because of my cute window display.

Y'all. 🥹

I was absolutely tickled. There's something so special about realizing that the little details you pour your heart into are actually noticed and remembered by people in the community. Hearing that truly made my day. ❤️

But... that also reminded me of something. We're already a week into June and my window display is due for a refresh! 👀

Last time, so many of you jumped in with ideas, votes, and feedback, and you helped me create something that people are actually noticing and remembering. So naturally, I'm coming back to my favorite design team......you!!😉

This year, I know I want the display to be inspired by our beautiful Pacific Northwest beaches. 🌊

What's extra special is that each of these theme ideas is inspired by real sessions I've photographed over the years. As I was brainstorming, I found myself revisiting favorite images and noticing how many of them fit into different coastal vibes.

The winning theme will help me decide which images from those past sessions get brought back to life in the window display!
