My husband recently got Vorfreude tattooed on his forearm.

It’s a German word without a direct English translation meaning “the joyful anticipation of something you know is coming.”
The pleasure of looking forward to it before it even happens.

Like being a kid on Christmas Eve. ☺️

To me, this photo is just that-

The dear friends. The flowers in her hands.
That joyful expression on her face.

A Denver Capitol elopement that will forever live in my head.

Not because it was beautiful (it was).
And not because it was intimate (so, so intimate and special).

But because sometimes you meet the right people and connect immediately, and it feels a little like meeting dear friends for the first time.

People who want you there—not just to photograph their love, but to celebrate it with them. Who invite you into their joy. Who aren’t afraid to let you witness the tears and the laughter and everything in between.

There is something incredibly sacred to me about being trusted with that.

This work of creating, witnessing, noticing—and ultimately being invited into a small piece of another person’s life story—is, by far, one of the greatest joys of my heart.

My last three posts have been single photographs. Not necessarily intentionally, but because each time, one image felt like enough.

Of course, my reach and engagement tanked. A little reminder of how much of a game this all is—and honestly, sometimes I find it exhausting.

I’m trying to remember that this little app is a tool, and I get to decide how I want to use it. Sometimes I want to share ten photographs that belong together. Other times, I want to let one image have all the space.

Not everything needs to perform.

Sometimes one is enough.

Where it all began for me… sort of.

I had spent nearly a decade behind a camera, but somewhere during 17 days wandering through Europe, I began to see differently.

My camera never left my hands. The architecture, the history, the light, the art of everyday life—everything felt like a feast for the eyes. And somewhere along the way, something shifted. I knew I didn’t want photography to remain something I simply loved. I wanted to make something of it.

I came home seeing beauty a little differently, and I think I’ve been chasing that feeling in my work ever since.

In four weeks, I’ll return to Europe—this time to Italy, to photograph an intimate destination wedding. It feels a little like coming back to where something started—only this time, I know what I’m looking for.
And I seriously cannot wait. 🤍

There’s really beautiful photos out there, perfect photos even that make my jaw drop.

Perfect venues or locations.
Perfect light.
Perfect composition.

And I think honestly at times I get a little swayed by them-as if they are the standard for what I should be creating. Then the little narrator in my head goes sounding off, “if only I could have/be/shoot…”. It can be creative paralysis.

But in actuality when I hold myself accountable to what I know to be true and am honest with myself I know I’m much less interested in creating perfect photos.
Because I want what feels true AND is true.

And I know true emotion trumps perfection every time. Can beautiful photos exist with honesty? Yes absolutely. But they often embrace imperfections.

Because our most honest emotions have never needed perfection to feel at home.

So I’ve come to embrace the blur, the movement, those imperfect edges—the things that happen when you’re actually living the moment, FEELING it instead of performing it.

So while you are doing what feels most at home to you, I’m just over here paying attention and noticing all the ways your love inspires the perfectly imperfect.

These sessions are intentionally unhurried. There is no timeline to chase, no expectation to perform, and no need to be anything other than exactly who you are.

As both a photographer and a mother, I’m here to gently guide when needed, but mostly to notice—to preserve the quiet glances, squishy hands reaching for yours, the laughter and even the cries, the stillness, and the connection that makes your mothering journey uniquely yours.

Because this isn’t about creating perfect moments.

It’s about remembering the real ones.
