Disparities within the mental health care system are a substantial problem within Michigan.
So many counties across Michigan have minimal to no psychiatric care available the general population.
The population is struggling with wait times that are months long to receive an appointment for mental health care.
This is outrageous that a patient who is in a crisis has to wait months to begin receiving treatment.
It’s outrageous that people have to drive over an hour to receive treatment.
It’s outrageous that so much of a stigma still exists that prevent treatment of those in need.
Help make a change.
Talk to organizations about expanding their care capacities to include mental health care.
Talk to peers about how they are really doing.
Talk to legislators and demand that real change happens.
This is more than showing off a cute green ribbon for the month of May and forgetting about the one fifth of Americans who utilize the mental health care system starting June first.
It’s time to treat mental health care as a piece of Basic Healthcare.
