Hey everyone! I’m Shellie Renee — the face, heart, and camera behind Shellie Renee Photography. By day, I work full-time at The James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University Medical Center, and I’m also a part-time student at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks! ❤️🤍). I’m a proud mom of two amazing girls (now 31 and 27!) and blessed with a boy

friend who truly has the patience of a saint for putting up with my busy schedule and endless photo adventures. When I do get free time, I’m usually running (literally) all over Ohio and beyond, capturing photos. I love freezing real, honest moments — the ones that tell your story and make you feel something every time you look back. Thanks for following along and supporting this little dream of mine. Can’t wait to share more of the people, places, and stories I get to capture! ❤️

🎵 Cue the dramatic National Geographic music... 🎵

There I was, deep in the wild and untamed frontier...

Not tracking a pride of lions.
Not documenting a rare species.

No.

I was on an expedition to photograph... chickens. 🐔📸

The challenge? The grass was up to my knees and apparently the chickens had mastered the art of camouflage. One moment I'd spot one, the next it would disappear into the wilderness like a seasoned predator stalking its prey. Then there was the fence.

As I carefully navigated the terrain, camera in hand, I imagined the narrator's voice:

"Here we see the elusive photographer in her natural habitat. She moves cautiously through the tall grass, hoping to capture images of the chicken. The chicken, however, remains suspicious and highly skilled at evading documentation."

Several hundred squats and one mild fear of stepping on something unexpected later... I emerged victorious with zero clear photos.

National Geographic may have lions.
I had the rare bread of evasive chickens.

💍❤️ Engagement pictures are a little different when there’s a mini-me involved… and honestly, we absolutely love it.

These sessions aren't just about two people planning a future together. They're about a family, little by little, moment by moment. Including the little ones makes everything about the session feel even more meaningful.

At first, this little guy wanted absolutely nothing to do with pictures. He was shy, keeping his distance, and making it very clear that he wasn't interested in the cameras. 😂

But then we discovered the secret ingredient... 💨 Farts.

One mention of farts and suddenly we were his new best friends. The smiles appeared, the laughter started, and before we knew it, he was stealing the show.

Sometimes the best photos don't come from perfect poses. They come from giggles, silly moments, and letting kids be kids. Those are the memories that make these sessions so special. ❤️📸

There is something so special about newborn sessions. ❤️

On Father's Day, I had the honor of photographing the sweetest little guy as he stretched, yawned, snuggled into blankets, and slept peacefully through much of his session. 📸👶

What made this session even more special wasn't just the adorable baby yawns or tiny details it was watching a family simply enjoy this moment together. Mom and Dad were able to relax, soak in their new little blessing, and enjoy a moment of rest while memories were being captured that they will treasure forever.

And then there was Big Brother. ❤️

He took his job very seriously. He helped with lights, blankets, binkies, hats, and anything else that needed an extra hand. Most importantly, he worked so hard not to be a wiggle worm so his baby brother could stay calm and comfortable for his pictures. His love and excitement for his new role was impossible to miss.

Years from now, these photos will remind them of tiny yawns, sleepy snuggles, and a big brother who was already showing what it means to love, protect, and care for his little brother.

These are the moments that pass by far too quickly, but thankfully, photographs allow us to hold onto them forever. ❤️

Cool and crazy things I encountered in dugouts and team tents this weekend:

🌬️ 10 Shark FlexBreeze™ Pro Mist indoor/outdoor fans with portable misting systems

❄️ 2 Costway 10,000 BTU portable air conditioners

🧊 1 Costway 2-in-1 ice maker and water dispenser

🛠️ And I lost count of how many DEWALT 8-inch indoor/outdoor jobsite fans were running

🚽 One portable camping toilet and privacy tent

🧺 Clotheslines dedicated entirely to cooling towels

⛺ Bungee cords and tarps creatively engineered to turn dugouts into shaded luxury suites.

By Saturday evening, I wasn't sure if I was covering youth sports or attending an outdoor survival competition. 😂

I have to admit, some of these parents and coaches deserve engineering degrees for the things they come up with to survive tournament weekends in the heat.

So now I'm curious...

What's the craziest, coolest, or most creative thing you've seen or used at a ballfield, tournament, swim meet, or sporting event? 🫠tell me below 👇🏼

After helping themselves to the cherries on our tree, this beautiful blue oriole perched on the fence like it owned the place. 🍒🐦💙

I guess when you're this gorgeous, you can raid the buffet and then sit back to admire your work. 😂📸

You know those people who can take a selfie and somehow look effortlessly beautiful? ✨

Yeah... I am not those people. 😂

Today I took a selfie that completely defied the laws of selfies. It was blurry, crooked, half my face was missing, and somehow it managed to make me look like I was running from a tornado while riding a lawn mower. 🤦🏻‍♀️📸

I stared at it for a solid minute trying to figure out what exactly happened. Was my camera moving? Was I moving? Was there an earthquake? Did Bigfoot take the picture?

At this point, I think my little point and shoot was just as confused as I was.

The good news is that after taking thousands of photos of other people, I can confidently say I know how NOT to photograph myself. 😂

Sincerely,

Captain of the Hot Mess Express 🚂📸

I was invited over to the Baltimore Pool to capture some pictures of a special birthday girl but while I was there I snapped a few more pictures as I hid under the slide from the rain. It was a nice change from the ball diamonds ❤️🏊🏻🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏻‍♂️
