For you are asked to post one photo that encapsulates your world. How can I choose just one?? Here is one of my favorites that is very special to me. This is my Dad, Dannie. I took this when I was in one of my first photography classes & we were learning on film. Not because it was cool & retro, because that's how cameras worked then.
He & my mom came to San Diego to visit me and I took them to Tijuana. (It was safer in the early 90s) He had the best time talking to everyone & haggling with the vendors. This picture is just him having a ball that day. It reminds me of his great sense of humor & how he never met a stranger.
Another thing I like about this photo is that I developed the film & created this 8 X 10 in the darkroom. When I found this photo in a box a few years ago another copy, a bit over exposed, was behind it, reminding me of how much labor went into getting just one properly exposed print. It was always worth it to create that tangible representation of a memory.
And that photo becomes everything when it is the only tangible thing you have left.
And I guess that, in a sence encapsulates part of my world, Why I am a photographer. I have a need to create & photography give me the ability to freeze time, and be the keeper of memories.

25 years ago I married my best friend & my rock.
I wasn’t in a hurry to be legally tied to someone, practically a commitment-phobe. One day my grandma handed me a quilt she made to give me at my wedding & said, I’m giving you this now because I may be dead before you get married😂
That all changed when I found the one I didn’t want to live without.
We’ve been through a lot in those years -
a lot of change around us but stability between us,
we’ve lost & gained loved ones,
we’ve planned & grown,
we’ve cried, but much more often we’ve laughed.
K - you’ve always been there for me, for us, with such loyalty, sensitivity and devotion.
And even though we married each other three times (a story for another post 😉) I’d do it all over again🩵
