Part Three - How can postpartum depression become postpartum psychosis?

A lot are asking this question. It's a very valid one. I hope this reel sheds more light on the topic of mental health, brings more understanding and compassion.

I hope my story is an encouragement to some mom, somewhere who is struggling.

Moms deserve so much better.

I hope this is the start of conversations and tangible action that will lead to change. ❤️

Part Two

Once upon a time, I was too afraid and ashamed to say these words out loud because I thought that admitting them made me a bad mom.

Now I share for the mamas who haven't yet found their voices but need to know they aren't alone.

The ones who worry they may never love motherhood.

The ones who sometimes wish they had their old lives back.

The ones wrestling in silence, feeling isolated and unseen.

I hope that as I continue he share my story, more women find freedom to say, "me too."

Sharing some more of my story today in the hopes that this will help answer the question so many are asking-- "How could one possibly compare postpartum depression to postpartum psychosis?"

It's a VERY valid question but I hope my story will shed a little bit of light on how complex this issue is and honestly, how easy it is for a mental health struggle to become a full on crisis. ❤️

Part Two is coming!

You might be a part of this club if you don't enjoy being a mom but are too afraid to say those words out loud.

You might be a part of this club if you just want your old life back.

You might You might be a part of this club if you find yourself believing that your family is better off without you.

If the thoughts you're having don't seem like they should be coming from a loving mom and wife. So you feel intense shame.

It wasn't until I battled with postpartum depression that I was able to understand how one could look in the mirror and not recognize the shell of the person in the reflection.

Having empathy and compassion for another mom who has walked through a mental health crisis doesn't mean you condone her sins.

It means you're able to grieve with and for a woman that you've likely never met, but somehow, part of you knows deeply because you're able to see yourself in her suffering.

The conversation amongst moms that understand this suffering now has to become, "how do we keep this from happening again?"

How do we help prevent another mom from ever feeling a level of this desperation.

How do we truly SEE her before it becomes too late?

Before giving birth to my first baby, I wouldn't have had a right to speak on a topic of maternal mental health.

But then I had a baby. An I went to war with postpartum depression.

This war left me emaciated, under 100 lbs, and considering ending my life because I believed my family deserved more than me.

I now understand how it's possible to look in the mirror every single day and not recognize the shell of the person staring back at you.

And until you've been the loved one that's gone to war with alongside someone battling,, then you don't have a voice to speak a word of judgement on a mom like Lindsay Clancy.

Full stop.

Instead of hurling stones, I'm grieving with and for a woman I've never met, but some part of me knows her deeply.

I can recognize that what likely changed the course of my healing was the support # system I had that she did not.

And that, is humbling and heartbreaking.
