It was this group the flipped the switch for me. I was standing about 15 feet in front of them as they were playing the current hit "Theme From Shaft. I had never seen anything like this in person. A two horns super funky soul band, close enough to touch. Lots more details, but this was the epiphany. This was the 'I want to do That ! moment.

Bass players, I could use some help. If you have some unused gear, or things that might need some slight repair, I could use them. Calumet Fisheries owner talks consistency
Calumet Fisheries first opened across from the 95th Street Bridge in 1928, but it wasn't until 1948 that brothers-in-law Sid Kotlick and Len Toll bought the seafood shack and set it on its path to becoming the Southeast Side staple it is today.

Not much changed at the famous red-roofed restaurant in the subsequent 75 years, at least not until an electrical fire damaged the interior in 2023. The blaze forced Calumet Fisheries to close up shop for seven months as the team brought in new display cases, walk-in coolers, electrical and plumbing systems, and a fresh roof. It reopened in June to many locals' relief.
