Schedule those family photos. They will be glad you did. There will be a day when you are only a memory. Always take those pictures.

Mom doesn’t exist in photos
especially on the holidays.

She just doesn’t.

She’s either the one taking the picture, or someone was about to take it,

but newborn cries filled the room, and her baby needed to be fed,

but one of her children needed to use the bathroom, and she rushed him out of the pool, sopping wet and cold.

And maybe she doesn't want to be in the photo because she "hates" the way she looks in her swimsuit right now.

Or she deletes it because it’s a “terrible picture.” One where she’s at the right angle, where she has three chins, and a muffin top stomach.

But pictures aren’t supposed to capture perfection,
they’re supposed to capture real moments.

Moments we want our children to see when they’re looking back on their childhood summer memories,
so they know we were there together,
sharing a hot dog off the grill,
swimming in the pool,
watching fireworks,
and enjoying each other’s company.

We show up everywhere for our children, but it's time we're more intentional about showing up in photos this holiday.

Because it does matter.

We won’t always be with them,
but that photo
