This was my first photo assignment after my brother died. I hadn’t worked for about a month after his kayaking accident, and it felt strange to return to the real world. I remember feeling like I was in the deep end of the ocean.
Something about this photo feels precious to me now. Back in September, in my shock and grief, the air had an odd electricity to it and the days looked like they were in Technicolor.
But this scene at Blue Ledge Farm was like a little slice of heaven with some magic sprinkled in. And the goats made me laugh and smile.
Thanks to Anson Tebbetts and his team at
Vermont Agriculture for a dream assignment with my husband, David Barron.
