As a portrait photographer I combine the two aspects I most enjoy, portraits and landscapes, to create romantic, sometimes fanciful and compelling images for my clients.

I’m calling this one finished. Unfortunately the gold foil I used to accentuate the mandala doesn’t photograph well, but it looks pretty cool in person. Still looking for the right name for it. Here are a few I’m tossing around: Inclusivity, Logan, One Does Not Preclude the Other

Happy Thursday friends! I meant to post this a week ago, but just got distracted and didn’t realize I hadn’t done it. Here is the latest update on my painting. Finished up the detail on the DNA strand and I put in part of a music score to a Mozart peace. You can look it up on YouTube. It’s called, Rondo Alla Turca. There are still a few more elements to be added before I call this piece finished. I hope you are enjoying the updates and have a great day. 😁

Happy Day, Friends!! It has been a while since I updated you on my progress with this painting. Now that I have actual studio space set up, I’m hoping to be much more productive. … I’ve added two new elements: a DNA strand (still to complete), and a mandala in the background. The Mandala was super tricky. When I first painted it in, I discovered the image too prominent, making the whole piece too busy. So I literally scraped off paint with a sharp knife and took a little sandpaper to soften the edges. When I felt it was sufficiently diffused, I took a light green wash over it. Then smudged on burnt umber. I even thought a little light texture might be cool, but I don’t want to run into the same problem I had by creating too much prominence….. Well, there you have it. I’m hoping to have this finished by the end of next week. One more element, and then the final details and touchups. Have a great weekend. 🩷

The wind was a blowin’ in Burbank yesterday and that always cranks up my allergy suffering to 100. When that happens, I do my best to stay indoors, which gave me a perfect excuse to paint all day. I made great progress with these floating boxes although they still need a little tweaking. I also had an opportunity to work a little bit on hair, and start laying paint down for the crosses.

A recognizable face! 😆 I’ll detail her hair last. What I have done is to block out the rest of my composition with white gesso. It’ll take the color easier and keep the green of the background from bleeding through. Once I’m done, I’m going to wash the front of my canvas to get rid of the water-base black ink I used to draw my design…it bleeds into my paint and mess up the color. No bueno. 😊🎨

Sharing the start of a new painting. I’ve got my background painted and drawn in much of my subject matter. I’ve got a few elements going in not shown: musical notes, and atoms, those will be placed and painted last.

This background paint was inspired by Chinese watercolors painted on cork-paper which I have several in my art collection. I really love the look of the cork paper and the green tones they tend to paint across that. 🩷

Hey now, I’m no one-trick pony!! Here is a pic of one of two pieces I have hanging in the Geo Gallery show this month, located on Victory near Western, in Burbank, Ca. “Peaceful Autumn Forest” is brush and ink applied to a thick watercolor paper. For me, this was an exercise in restraint and the careful layering of ink. I invite you to attend the show’s reception where you can see and meet the other artist exhibiting and maybe even start or add to, your own art collection. I’ll post the info in the coments below. ❤️😊 Have a great day!!
