TLDR: selling prints, 100% of proceeds will go to Black Art Futures Fund. Link to photo print site: https://ahphotographyfilm.darkroom.tech/
Like many others, I’ve spent the last few months reflecting on my own existing biases, having difficult conversations, and overall just trying to learn. I was also lucky enough to spend another summer working with a group of really thoughtful and creative high schoolers to create digital art with a focus on social justice. I got to witness the impact of art as not only a way for young people to feel empowered, but also a way to bring communities together. As frustrating/upsetting as it has been to see BIPOC continually be mistreated by broken systems in our society, it has also ignited a new wave of activism. Additionally, it’s incredibly sad to hear the news about Chadwick Boseman’s passing, but the work he has done is a reminder of how important representation in media (and the arts in general) is. As an Asian American with a strong interest in film, I am grateful for the strides that BIPOC have made to ultimately allow Asians and other minorities to have a spot on the stage/at the table.
I’m not sure how this post got this long, but basically art is awesome and there is still a lot of work to be done. If you would like to purchase a photo print of my photography, I will happily donate 100% of the profit to the Black Art Futures Fund which provides grants to small nonprofit orgs that amplify Black arts & culture. Or if you would rather spend your $$ to directly support BIPOC artists then I strongly encourage you to do so 😊
