At around 7pm on Friday September 11th, a rainstorm swept through Brookings, SD. When I looked outside and saw the downpour during sunlight, I knew there would be a rainbow to see, so I immediately dropped everything, put my shoes on, grabbed my camera and immediately headed East; got completely drenched in the process. About 5 miles east of Aurora provided me the most beautiful spot to see this prefect double rainbow. And once the storm passed, it left behind perfectly clear blue skies, allowing the sunset to brightly illuminate the mammatus clouds forming behind the storm. The camera truly doesn’t do justice, it was so beautiful to see in person, I just stood and watched for 40 minutes while the sun set.
It’s kind of poetic really, that this beautiful rainbow formed on 9/11, through a world of hate and division there is still beauty to be found. I have lots of friends and family who work as first responders, police, firemen, ems, and military. I guess I’ll use this post to extend my gratitude to these people who put their life on the line every single day to help keep us safe. Thank you all.
As I was standing there, all I could say was:
“Damn that’s pretty”
