The kid waits all year for sea bass season to open, so when it does you take him sea bassing.
Rollers had him green but he stuck it out for a bit.

Happy 11th Birthday to this guy! Not so patiently waiting for his birthday seabass trip.
Fishing during this years cousin's camping trip was less than stellar, but he got a few small ones. Last year may have spoiled us.

It's been a really long time since I caught an American shad. Like 25+ years long time.
My father's friend brought us out to fish for herring and shad. I was somewhere between 10-12 years old. We loaded coolers to use for chunking raritan bay the following night. People around us were live lining herring and catching and releasing the biggest bass I had ever seen at the time. We only had gear for our target species.
We went to the raritan the following night to chunk our fresh catch. We skunked.
Moral of the story? Be prepared for anything, and fish where the bait is, don't bring it to another state/totally different body of water 🤣

Thanks for the mount of my first giant landed, and in my own boat a few years ago. My son has claimed it as his own and it now lives in his room forever.

2025 TAGGING RECAP
Slower year for me. I only had one year with less tagged fish I believe. The year I hit 1000, I tagged just the exact amount I needed and that was it.
Total for 2025 is 138. With the largest being 48" and the smallest 15". All fish tagged between Sandy Hook and Barnegat Inlet. Ocean, bays and rivers. Not to many fish under 28" and not quite as many over 45" as usual. Mostly boat fish, handful of kayak fish and maybe about a dozen from land. 138 striped bass sounds like a lot to some, but if you spread them out over how many trips I took, the average is not good.

Reoccurring back issues, weird bite overall and a bad flu from Christmas through now all kept the numbers down a bit. Go-to spots for big numbers from land, dead. Resident fish spots, 1 or none. 20+ fish day this fall followed by the next 3 days of 1 or none per day. More than typical blanks through out the year didn't help.
Photo of the last fish tagged in 2025. Was hoping to hit 150 at least but it just wasn't in the cards. Onto 2026 and hopefully better health and better fishing!
