Disability Pride Month celebrates disabled people and their contributions to society. This pride month originated in the United States with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This month is also in recognition of the expansiveness which is the definition of disability, and the stigma around disability with the goal to change the way people think about disability. This month also celebrates disabled people taking pride in being accepted on our own terms.
July is disability pride month and as it comes to a close I wanted to share some things that people closest to me already know.
I've Dann & I've been disabled my whole life, although past Dann wouldn't have said it like that.
Often non-visually over my life, my disabilities continue to be disableding. Over time they have also become more visible as my relationship with my disabilities change — which means my relationship to Larping has also changed. Change means different, not better or worse, and as an ambulatory wheelchair user I continue to be myself; making the best worst creative decisions that no one's thought of yet, all over the world while downing Redbulls.
