BIRD STRIKE: JetBlue 2896 flew through a large cloud of birds just before touching down on runway 4R in Boston earlier this afternoon. Immediately after landing the crew reported striking at least a dozen birds over the threshold but said they weren’t aware of any damage while taxiing to the gate. Subsequent aircraft reported 20+ dead birds on the runway, and runways 4R and 9 were briefly closed while ground crews hustled to clean up the mess. Arrivals were sidestepped to 4L and Lufthansa 422, a 747-8, was given about 15 minutes of delay vectors until 4R was open again.
