Gonna be honest that my initial listen to Blueberry Boat was not very positive. But the live show was revelatory with the stripped back presentation by the Friedberger siblings and I was won over. Eleanor’s voice and lyrics (and memory, that’s a lot of words!) coupled with Matt’s piercing and dynamic piano playing won me over. Great show, welcome back.

I have seen John Zorn a number of times, in different configurations and every single time it's an amazing performance. The New Masada Quartet was on fire tonight.

Got a chance to see The Mountain Goats when I was in Ohio.

As The Mountain Goats show started, I was struck by the complete 180 that leader John Darnielle has engineered over the years. After his three backing band members took their positions and “Overture” blended into “Armies of the Lord,” Darnielle sauntered over to the mic and began singing. Th...

Going back about ten years, every Memorial Day I’d be furiously trying to finish editing and publishing photos from . Well, this year they are on hiatus (I don’t miss shooting rainy festivals so silver lining there) so I figured it would be a good time to look back and reminisce on some of the acts I saw at the original City Hall Plaza location, from 2014 to 2017. I’ll run out of hashtags so will just leave the details of each slide here. Hope you dig!

There were a lot of great bands at Desertfest London this year once again, and the one I was most looking forward to seeing was Causa Sui. I don’t think they have ever played the US and this was my first chance; they did not disappoint, full on smoking jams and had a good hang with them after they played as well. Looking forward to a second dose, whenever that may be.
