Today I make final preparations before I disappear into the high alpine wilderness area of the Seven Devils Wilderness. I've never been to this place before and am excited for my five-day retreat into the wilds. I'm hoping to capture photographs that showcase this landscape in all its majesty. I'm excited to share them with you all when I get back. Wish Shadow and I luck.

To me nature, natural places, represent purity. I try to get to these places whenever I can in order to reset. We all experience the side effects of our social responsibilities to say the right things, to vote for the right people, to fight for what society tells us we should fight for, to act a certain way, and to be extra careful not to offend. Nature accepts us the way we are and asks only for harmony. While surrounded by the many gifts nature provides us we may also receive perhaps her most precious gift, enlightenment. Here, without societal pollution, the energies that surround us, that we ultimately are, will speak to you deeply if you will only listen. These whispers have no agenda and are your own thoughts now being heard in their pure form without the repercussion of judgment.

Happy Announcement. I'm happy to announce that I'll be attending two book signing events for the highly anticipated release of the book "Incredible Idaho" - Exploring Majestic Landscapes and Native Wildlife. I'm a contributing photographer and have 14 images in it including the title page and 13 full-page spreads, along with an essay I wrote on the Owyhee. If you'd like to attend please join me at one of the following locations. You'll be able to either purchase signed books or just talk to yours truly. I'll be accompanied by other contributing photographers along with the author, as well as a landscape photographer, Linda Lantzy.

Looking back to last year and a photograph I took while backpacking in the Pioneer Mountains of Idaho. I jotted down some thoughts and later put them in the "field notes" section of a calendar I made for the month of July. I wrote, "Allowing nature's energy to guide me, soon I realize that the only thing that matters in this moment is contentment. Nature's formula is simple-- let everything go and only simplicity remains, and the simple things are the most important. I'm content here in the dark with my bare feet touching the earth, rum lifting my spirit, my dog, Shadow, warmly against me, and the occasional trail of a falling star jutting across the glorious heavens."

A breathtaking view from the Lost River Range of Idaho. Always, there is something to feed my soul, out there! A pause along my journey, a moment of reflection as I gaze upon this wonder. Now, only a memory as it faded away and only remains in this photograph. A moment of awe, a relic of the ages.

I was taught by my mother that the only limits we have are the limiting thoughts we impose upon ourselves. We never had a full-blown conversation about it but she would always give me wise tidbits here and there. Another, live your life in the direction of your dreams.

Behold! This is the image I promised to share with you today. This image was captured 27 minutes after the blue hour photograph I shared yesterday of the same spot. I'll share it again in the comments. This was an unexpected detour from the loose plan I had for my Lost River Range trip I took a couple weeks ago. In my mind's eye, I knew exactly what I was hoping to capture and this shot represents one of those self-fulfilling prophecies.

A lot can happen in such a short period of time. Each day is a gift that was never promised and there is no guarantee that tomorrow will even arrive. This is why we all should live each day so that we'll have no regrets and always live life in the direction of your dreams!

I just returned from a reflective journey into my favorite location in Idaho, The Lost River Range. It was just myself and my dog Shadow. I took my summer bag rated for 28 degrees and one night it got down to 24 degrees. I'm now living proof that you wont die if you venture beyond your sleeping bags rating. I redescovered the simplicity that is life. I connected with nature on a deeper level and in turn she, once again, helped me sort out the important from the noise.
On life and living Marcus Aurelius wrote “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.” I know that the important things in my life are the simplest and also the most meaningful. Many lessons were tought to me by these great mountains. This is a teaser photo. Stay tuned for more imagery and reflection I'll share from my field journal.

Hey folks. It looks like some of my imagery may be in a book. My photography friend, Linda Lantzy, has produced a book called Incredible Idaho, Exploring Majestic Landscapes and Native Wildlife. She worked with over 25 of Idaho's top nature photographers, including me, in order to curate imagery for the book. I will also be contributing a short essay on the Owyhee Wilderness Canyonlands. This is a kickstart project and I encourage you to go in and pledge in order to get a book or two. They are limited edition and early contributors will be able to get some free swag.
