Met this cute burrowing owl on a hike near Wilson Peak today. Burrowing Owls are quite fascinating! Unlike most owls, they're active during the day, though they do most of their hunting at dawn and dusk. They're also known for their long legs and the way they often stand on one leg. They don't dig their own burrows but instead take over burrows dug by other animals, like prairie dogs or ground squirrels

I haven't posted for awhile. . . out of town, then had a wrestling match with my computer, but think I won the match. 🙃

Using a flower I photographed in my backyard, I've been playing with layering textured backgrounds and different color schemes. I'm curious, which is your favorite and why? Or if none of them strikes your fancy, what is your favorite flower and decor style? 💐

So neat to be able to attend the USS Idaho commissioning ceremony in Groton, CT with my husband, then get to tour the submarine! We also took some time to see Cape Cod and the history-rich shoreline of Rhode Island. 💕

I’m deeply honored to have two of my photographs selected for a printed display aboard the USS Idaho SSN 799—a tribute to Idaho’s spirit and beauty.

Being born and raised in Idaho makes this moment even more meaningful to me. 💕

The submarine is scheduled to be commissioned on April 25th in Groton, Connecticut. Please keep our Navy and crew in your prayers as they begin this new journey.

At Lake Lowell, an overcast spring day felt soft and still—until the clouds opened just enough for sunlight to spill through. The sun’s rays not only stretched across the water but also lit up rows of pink orchard blossoms like they were glowing from within. One of those blink-and-you-miss-it kind of moments 🌸✨
Hard to imagine this peaceful shoreline once hosted a full Wild West Bronco Billy film featuring Clint Eastwood in 1980—and it was no small production. Twelve freight cars packed with antique props rolled in: everything from drums and weaving frames to anvils, pelts, and even 1,000 cannonballs.
These days, the only thing rolling in is light—and lots of birds.
While you won’t spot Bronco Billy or his wild west circus at Lake Lowell today, you will be treated with beautiful Owyhee Mountain views, hiking trails, occasional deer, over 200 species of birds, including large colonies of Western and Clark’s grebes, American white pelicans, bald eagles, osprey, herons, and huge concentrations of migratory ducks and Canadian geese.

White flowering dogwoods symbolize renewal and rebirth, and are linked to purity and sacrifice. Each bloom on a dogwood tree has four petals, symbolizing a cross. At the end of each petal, there is a small indention to remind us of the nails that pierced Jesus' hands and feet. Some petals also have red spots, a poignant reminder of Jesus’ crucifixion. His sacrificial death purchased rebirth and eternal life to all who believe, accept, and follow Him.

Slate feathers. Bright eyes. Big personality. . . bigger in cuteness.
These little Dark-eyed Juncos show up like they own the season, hopping with tidy determination and flashing those white outer tail feathers every time they lift off. A tiny wink in motion.

In post process, keeping in style with these cheerful birds, I added some digital painting and texture overlays for a touch of whimsy. :)

Snow drifts softly around Sheep Bridge on the North Fork Payette River in McCall, and everything feels slower here.
This stretch of water, known locally as The Meanders near Riverfront Park, connects Payette Lake to Lake Cascade, winding its way through the valley with quiet purpose. In summer, it carries paddleboards, kayaks, and fishing lines. Today, it carries only reflection.
The cold air tastes clean, edged with pine and a trace of woodsmoke. Snow softens the red frame of the bridge while pale pink clouds drift overhead, their color briefly mirrored in the moving water below.
Standing there, I’m reminded that this river has seen more than seasons. Along these banks, obsidian tools once caught the light. Cambium peeled trees still stand as subtle records of those who gathered carefully from the land. The stories remain, even when the valley is quiet.
A small gust lifts the flurries. I press the shutter.
For a moment, sky, bridge, and river meet in stillness before the current moves on.

McCall feels wrapped in a winter pause as I look toward Mill Park and Payette Lake. 💙❄️ The air is sharp and clean, as the lake holds every shade of blue, pale sky, deep water, and soft reflections that seem to slow time itself. Early in the year, before the Winter Carnival Festival fills the streets, the town rests, quiet and thoughtful.

It feels as though the lake is remembering back to 1924, when McCall answered winter’s long stretch with Payette Lakes Sports Carnival. I imagine dog races cutting across snow, snowshoes biting into ice, skiers flying, and even a motor sleigh racing over the frozen lake, powered by an airplane motor and fearless joy. Those days gave way to ski hills, organized sports, and later the Ice Break-Up Contest, where everyone waited and guessed for spring’s first crack.

This year the lake hasn’t frozen over, yet its calm blue surface seems to hold every season at once. In the stillness, history feels close, quietly shaping the winter spirit that still draws people here.
