The Boise City Wildcats made a strong showing at the state track meet, highlighted by a historic performance from standout distance runner Mia Hegwood, who brought home three state titles while breaking multiple school records.
Hegwood claimed first place finishes in the girls 1600-meter run, 800-meter run, and 3200-meter run, cementing her place among Boise City’s all-time greats. In the process, she shattered two school records previously held by former Wildcat standout Keidy Diaz.
In the 3200-meter run, Hegwood crossed the finish line in an impressive 11:48.34, breaking the previous school record of 11:51.07 set by Diaz in 2019. She also rewrote the record books in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:24.19, surpassing Diaz’s 2018 mark of 5:26.55.
Boise City athletes continued to make their presence known across several events. AJ Crabtree earned a fourth-place finish in the boys 800-meter run, while Tayton Cadell soared to a third-place finish in pole vault competition.
On the girls side, Ana Crabtree placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Both relay teams also battled hard against tough competition. The girls 4x400-meter relay team finished seventh overall, while the boys 4x400-meter relay team placed tenth.
The Wildcats’ performances capped off an impressive season for Boise City track and field, with athletes bringing home medals, championships, and new school records that will be remembered for years to come.
