I will be holding a class at Menagerie on Main on Tuesday evening, June 11th. This class is meant for everyone, no matter your artistic background. A more in depth look at the class: I truly believe that creativity should be apart of everyone’s life, even if you’re “not good at art”. So many people are discouraged from creating because they can’t draw a realistic portrait or horse or landscape. I want to create an environment that takes anyway the pressure of making a perfect, finished artwork and focus on experimenting with color and playing with materials. This will then allow you to relax and just enjoy what’s happening on the canvas. In the stressful times of Covid lockdown and early motherhood, painting has been an outlet for me. Painting abstract specifically has allowed me to release expectations of perfection and trust my intuition. In this class, we will create an abstract painting. From there, you look at your painting and decide which sections are your favorite. What shapes and colors are working best together? Then we will tear the canvases to create miniature works of art in the form of one-of-a-kind bookmarks. This is a practice I use myself when I create paintings that don’t work as a whole piece but still have potential. You can always find beauty in little moments of even your least successful work.
