Martina Jo Photography *Family-Engagement-Maternity-Newborn-Seniors-Milestones-Pets* Some might say the photographer is only a part of the equation. I loved hearing that! Lets chat!!

My goal is to work with you to create beautiful photos we both love to show off- and capture the moments you never want to forget!! My only requirement is for you to show up and be as genuinely YOU as possible- let me do the rest! I do not consider myself a professional photographer. I am a hobby photographer; always having a passion for this form of art. I became known as the "photographer" for m

y family growing up, even before I knew what I was doing. My Dad told me that I was the first person in my family to take a picture of our family dog by laying on the floor to meet her point of view. Now I am always looking for the 'not-so-obvious' angles and artistic touches that might make my photos stand out a little from the others. I photograph by natural light, on location- which can include the comfort of your own home. I offer a range from lifestyle sessions, family/group, engagement, maternity, newborns, seniors, any other milestones you can think of (except weddings..), and pets! Do you have a specific idea in mind- maybe something crazy, off the wall? Want some background info? I was a horse camp counselor through high school and into college, a child care teacher through college, a paraprofessional at a school for special education, and am currently working at a community mental health center for kids and their families. I have a BA in psychology, and hope to always have a career in this field. With this experience, I have plenty of patience for even the most challenging models :)

I also have a soft spot for the four legged kids; with experience working with horses, dogs, and cats (and comfortable around most other animals :) ) I have always had dogs. I spent several years involved in dog shows/events and loved every minute. Another goal of mine is to be more involved in supporting shelters and rescue programs. I hope you have stuck with me through reading that- I know so many of you have stuck with me since the beginning of this journey. For that, I am so grateful!! Thank you so much for stopping by my page! Feel free to contact me for more information. Lets see what beautiful memories we can create!

What's been on my mind lately?... I miss photography (mostly lol).

Contemplating how to ease my way back in without being overwhelmed. Also needing to update some technology before I can dive back in.. kinda need a working computer lol.

Getting ready to celebrate Little Man's 1st birthday!!! Watch out for those photos to come soon πŸ˜€

I kept thinking I made this post already... postpartum brain... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

After 5 months as a new Mama, I have finally been able to start processing some feelings and thoughts. (Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but this is honestly where I am at in this journey). As much as I have always LOVED photography (and probably do still love it just as much), I have made the decision to take an intentional pause so I can work through some struggles with postpartum depression.

I was asked by a dear friend (who I have captured so many memories and milestones for) to take some new family photos, and as much as I wanted to do them, I was also worried. I worry about attempting to plan things ahead because I never know what my mood is going to be like. I would absolutely HATE to do photos for someone (especially my friends) that are not my absolute best- because I'm not at my best.

At some point, I hope to be in a place where the thought of picking up my camera doesn't feel like too much, at least just to play around. I will also try to still be somewhat active here, just so I do t forget about it 😊 And we'll see where this goes...

In the years that I have been playing around with photography, I like to think that I display an abundance of patience when working with families- especially tiny babies. I like to credit the fact that I have worked with kids for more than half of my life, and that has really helped with this hobby. But now that I have been on the other side of the camera for THIS moment- Mamas, I see you! I see how badly you want "nice" photos of your family. I see how embarrassed you feel when it takes time to get even one good pose with everyone in the shot. Even though you shouldn't feel that way. Things happen- babies get fussy and hungry (often lol), dogs don't always listen or sit still (a lot like kids lol), and husbands often don't want to be there (luckily mine wanted family photos tooπŸ™ƒ) Even though I feel like I always do my best to work for the Moms and Dads- this definitely gives me a different perspective. I never want my friends to come to a photo session anxious, worried, or nervous that their family isn't going to cooperate. Its my job to make this experience as stress free and enjoyable for you as I can- to capture all the sweet, and sometimes chaotic, photos of how your family is in those moments. Photo credit to my best friend for getting our first set of photos as a family of 3 ❀️

I just realized I hadn't posted an update on here... oops πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Things have been a little crazy- we were so blessed with an easy pregnancy- delivery, unfortunately, was not so easy and recovery has been a little harder than expected. However...
Carl Weston Drake made it into the world (on his due date) 3/23/23 at 10pm- 7 lbs 10oz and 20 in of perfection! πŸ’™ We have been taking photos EVERY day, but I will be playing around with getting some "professional" looking photos of him soon.. as well as some family photos. Stay tuned πŸ’™

Don't have access to Lightroom right now, so I edited these with an older, basic program. The great thing is that I didn't need to do much to these because my bestie did such a nice job taking them for me! It is weird being on this side of the camera, but I am so grateful to have these photos from this journey. One more month until baby boy makes his debut πŸ’™

Friends.. I have been so distracted these days. So much going on! But... we are finally feeling more settled in our new place, feeling (slightly) more prepared for the arrival of baby boy. And I did something different today- my lovely assistant/bestie took some maternity photos for me. Needless to say we were both a little out of sorts, but they turned out really good! Now I'll be spending the next couple days cleaning them up just a bit 😊 Stay tuned!

Happy New Year!! We'll see what 2023 has in store for this journey!

Happy Dec 1st, friends... last month of this crazy year!! I was just looking back through my page and I see a BIG pattern. Every year I strive for doing more... and every year I fall short of my own expectations... there are a few things I wanted to do and missed with this page this year. But that is life, right. We have to remember to give ourselves some grace and acknowledge the challenges or obstacles that get in our way... but not making excuses- we have to keep moving forward. There is ALWAYS room for improvement!!
