Being chosen can feel good in the moment.
But can you count on the person choosing you?
Sometimes there are moments that remind us of what we actually want… I had that moment today.
Someone who will hold my hand.
Someone who will show up on the hard days.
Someone who will walk through the storms and the loss with me.
And someone I want to show up for, too.
Because we’re looking for a LIFE partner.
Someone to do the actual living with. 🫶🏻
I know how easy it is to get caught up in wanting to be wanted. To feel so relieved when someone claims you that you forget to ask what being with them actually feels like.
👉🏻 Can I have needs here?
Can I be vulnerable without feeling like a burden?
Do their actions show that we’re on the same team?
Do I want the relationship they’re actually offering?
Dating means sitting with some uncertainty. You won’t know all of this right away. Give yourself time to notice how they show up, even when you feel the urge to rush toward reassurance.
But we know one thing for certain: life isn’t always easy. And when you’re building a life with someone, you want a teammate to face the hard parts with. Especially when the conflict is between the two of you.
Someone who can work through a disagreement with you, care about how you feel, and take responsibility for their part.
The attention can feel reassuring. But it takes time and consistency to see whether someone is willing and able to build a partnership with you.
And if they aren’t, that can hurt deeply. It still doesn’t decide your worth.
You get to do the choosing, too. You get to look beyond the relief of being wanted and consider whether this connection has room for all of you, including the parts that need care.
If you’re ready to date from a more grounded place, learn to hold uncertainty without constantly seeking reassurance, and stay connected to yourself as you get to know someone, that’s the work we do inside Ignite. ✨
