Ever thought about starting something new, but felt scared? That’s me right now.

As a photographer with nearly 20 years in the game, I’ve decided to embark on a new journey: building out my fine art practice online. It’s a big shift, and I’m terrified about doing this in front y’all. The thing is, personal projects are where my passion lies, not just the commercial gigs.

I realized that I’ve been holding myself back, thinking fine art was a luxury I could only pursue after achieving certain milestones.

Now I’m ready to create, share, and grow in front of you all! From artist residencies to creative explorations, I want to document this process as I find my voice as a fine art photographer. It’s about vulnerability, learning, and accountability.

So, if you’re also navigating change in your creative journey, let’s figure it out together! Remember, every practice is just that—a practice. Keep showing up!

What’s your next step? Let’s chat below!

Forever grateful to have been chosen to live this life. Forever grateful to have family and friends, near and far, who support every single thing that I do. The last photo with my big cousin, Erin, always makes me smile because to have family who loves you is to be rich for life. In gratitude to be asked to speak and to love the dream. Crossing through dreams one by one.

March was Women’s History Month, and I spent it speaking and teaching a studio lighting class . I love how engaged the students were in both settings, and the questions about my work and art practice. So many of my friends and family came, and that really made your girl emotional. To have so many loyal folks in my corner means a lot, and it also means I am loved. Many thanks to for inviting me. Those students are something special.

Happy Women’s History Month! I’m excited to give an artist talk on Wednesday, March 18th. To talk about my close to 20 years (!!!) of work is an experience that I’m truly grateful to have the opportunity have, as well as share this moment at an institution for Black women and Black women identifying folks. An honor and privilege to know that Black girlhood and womanhood can be celebrated throughout time and space, even when the world hardly accepts us.

This talk is open to the public, so I hope to see your beautiful faces in the crowd. Thank you, , for the invitation and I’m looking forward to all who will join us next week.

It’s never lost on me that I’ve spent time with some of the South’s most ferocious keepers of Black legacy and history. Joanne Bland was one of many that I got to spend time with. We bonded over our hope for Alabama, our inquisitve thoughts around Black folks, and the humor we both spoke as Black women. And though she’s now on the other side, the fight still continues. She crossed two bridges: Edmund Pettus and now the bridge to a life well deserved with rest and honor. We will stay the course and remember you as we commemorate Bloody Sunday in March. March on, Joanne.
