It is disability awareness month. I thought I would share information on the flag. This separate from LGBTQ+ Pride. Although both prides are different, there are a lot of LGBTQ+ people that are also disabled. As a disabled person, I find educating people of various disabilities help people understand the complexity of disabilities. Here is the flag and through out the month I will be sharing more information about various disabilities.
Let's start with the flag
- Charcoal Gray Background: Represents mourning and rage for those lost to ableist violence, abuse, and systemic neglect.
- Diagonal Band: The parallel lines cut across the walls and barriers that separate disabled people from society, representing community solidarity.
- Red: Physical disabilities.
- Gold: Cognitive, intellectual, and neurodivergent disabilities.
- White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities.
-Blue: Psychiatric and mental health disabilities.
-Green: Sensory disabilities (deafness, blindness, etc.)
